Greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union 1990-2022, by sector
Greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union have decreased across most sectors since 1990, with the exception of transportation. In 2022, EU-27 domestic transportation emissions amounted to 803 MtCO₂e – nearly 20 percent higher than they were in 1990. Meanwhile, emissions from energy supply, the largest source of EU-27 emissions, have fallen by approximately 43 percent since 1990. The reduction in energy supply emissions is one of the main factors for EU-27 annual net GHG emissions falling by more than 30 percent, relative to 1990 levels.
